Why Developing for iPhone?

Recently, a significant growth in programming for mobile devices can be observed on the IT market, especially, it is well seen in application development for iPhones. According to the data of Gartner’s 2009 report on smartphone market, the highest sales growth rate is displayed by devices with MAC OS X operating system (iPhones) – 245.7%. Then come Research In Motion (BlackBerry) and Palm OS with 96.7% and 42.2% respectively.

Lately, access to Internet services and websites is often executed via smartphones with iPhone being the leader in this segment. Owners of this device use GPRS for Internet access 30 times more often than users of other mobile phones. This is encouraged by the Apple’s concept of “always-on” Internet access when a phone uses any possible channels of access, from local Wi-Fi to global 3G, while ensuring transparent switching between them.

AdMob, providers of mobile advertising, on their site publish statistics of mobile platforms which receive the company’s traffic. This statistics shows traffic from mobile devices which have Internet access including iPod Touch which offers full access to Internet services via Wi-Fi. In the North America the leaders in the traffic are iPhone and iPod Touch working under iPhone OS operating system (in Gartner report it is mentioned as MAC OS X). Both devices collectively generate about 51% of the total traffic in the region. In the Western Europe the traffic leaders are the same – iPhone and iPod Touch.

The release of devices on iPhone OS platform enabled the impetuous growth of Internet traffic from mobile devices. Open SDK for iPhone and centralized mechanism of applications’ distribution through AppStore significantly increased chances for success of this platform. Annual Apple updates in this market segment have already become a tradition and this summer one should certainly expect for another product line update. This assumption is conveyed by such things as the release of iPhone OS 3.0 beta-version on March 17 with significant changes, rumors about new graphic processors, and mass Apple’s pre-emption of storage modules on the market.

With all being said and all the facts mentioned we at Softheme believe that the most popular and perspective platform for development today is iPhone OS. This is why our company has already given special consideration to the development of this service direction providing innovative iPhone solutions to its customers; and we really see the rising demand for this type of service and expect for its growth during next years.

Hey you have a wonderful blog and more interesting you have put good content. Outsourcing has become an extensive part of the North American business culture. All the Knowledge Based Functions including the IT and Non-IT, which require some intellectual capital and resources are considered to be ideal candidates for outsourcing.
