IT Weekend in Odessa [Pics]

Odessa IT events As you know, last weekend was rich in opportunities for IT specialists to meet and learn something new during three important industry events.

The first one - Mobile Developer Day. Representatives of Samsung and Microsoft told about about perspectives and specific features of the process of mobile development under their platforms. There were also interesting presentations about usability of mobile software, augmented reality and opportunities for monetization of mobile apps. All speakers agreed in one thing - that mobile development market is constantly gorwing, so developers can be sure that within the next few years they will have plenty of work to do. (more…)

Google updates sitelinks

In a recent blog post Google unveiled their ‘expanded and improved’ sitelinks. For those who don’t know what sitelinks are, that’s what they looked loke before:

Google’s blog post says: ‘Sitelinks help you quickly navigate to the most relevant part of the site, which is particularly handy for large and complex websites. Sitelinks can also give you a good overview of a website’s content, and let webmasters expose areas of the site that visitors may not know about’.

Understanding the value of sitelinks, Google’s specialists has always paid attention to improving them. At first sitelinks had been rearrenged into columns, then their number was doubled and sitelinks started showing for more results.

Google vs Facebook

Facebook: it’s the world’s biggest website, by some calculations, and fast overtaking Google as the technology poster child of our time. But don’t underestimate Google, which is reportedly working on a new social networking project to try and rival Facebook’s domination in the space.

Social networking is one area where Google has failed to get traction, at least in the English-speaking world. It owns Orkut, which is big in Brazil and India - but where Facebook is starting to close in on their market share. Buzz, Wave, Friend Connect - none have quite made the impact Google would have liked, though worthwhile experiments.

Squidoo is a unique publishing platform and community that makes it easy for you to create the so-called “lenses” online. The latter are pages, kind of like signposts or overview articles. You gather everything you know about your topic of interest in such lens and snap it all into focus by publishing it online. Like the lens of a camera, your page is your perspective on something important for you.
