Java Conflicts Brew between Oracle and JCP Insiders

Oracle’s handling of the JCP (Java Community Process) is under fire from some insiders, who do not see a level playing field in Java technology standardization.

The JCP determines which technologies do and do not make it into official Java specifications. Elections to the JCP Executive Committee are taking place this month. Executive committee member Doug Lea has pulled out of seeking another term on the panel and criticized Oracle’s handling of the JCP. And JCP participant Stephen Colebourne, a JCP specification leader and Apache Software Foundation member, objects to Oracle’s nomination of Hologic to serve on the executive committee. He also has questioned the candidacy of former Yahoo CTO Sam Pullara, wondering whether Pullara is too close to Oracle.

Offshore Software Project Management for Customers

The success of an IT outsourcing project depends not only on an offshore provider who develops the project but also on how the project is managed remotely by the client. With a little input from their end customers shouldn’t expect for a project to be successful in the long run. The reason for this is simple: a client knows his business requirements and processes better than the vendor does. Outsourcing companies often work in a different part of the world and what they really can do is only develop a software solution or provide required IT services basing on the input provided by the customer.

Usually for large projects customers engage a dedicated IT project manager whose goal is to interact with the offshore development team acting as a virtual bridge between the client’s business and the offshore programmers.
