As outlined in its IPO filing, Skype is making a big push for corporate customers as a way to bolster profits. Skype Connect, which just exited the beta stage, is a way to meld Internet Protocol calls with traditional private branch exchange (PBX) and Unified Communications systems. The new service enables businesses to make calls from regular phones, using the system already in place over a Skype connection for a significant cost advantage. Skype Connect enables businesses to integrate the VoIP service with their existing infrastructure. Users can make outbound calls through the regular phones to mobile networks or landlines and be billed at Skype’s standard rates. Calls to Skype users will be free. Next Generation of E-Readers Could Be FlexibleTuesday, August 31st, 2010According to to a recent Security and Exchange Comission filing by LG, they seem to be working on a color flexible e-paper by the end of the year. LG seems to be working on large flexible e-paper, what they might be used for is anyone’s guess. What we do know, is LG is working on a 9.7 inch and a 19 inch variation. They have been protyping this technology for awhile and recently showed off 14 inch A4 Sized paper, displaying around 16 million colors. Google Brings Voice to Gmail With Free CallsFriday, August 27th, 2010Google just shattered the pay wall between VoIP and telephones, letting Gmail users make free voice calls to the United States and Canada. Google promises that phone calls will remain free “for at least the rest of the year,” while calls to other countries start at $0.02 per minute. The voice service for Gmail will roll out to users over the next few days.
