Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 9 Web Browser Goes Live

Microsoft has said the latest version of its internet explorer web browser puts it ahead of competitors like Google and Firefox.

The software giant, which is losing market share, made the bold claim as it unveiled what is known as the release candidate of IE9.

This is the final test drive for the new browser - a chance to catch any last-minute bugs before its debut.

How Angry Birds Is Becoming the Next Super Mario

You can’t go a day without hearing someone mention Angry Birds.

Fans on Twitter share pictures of cakes they decorated with the Angry Birds characters. On YouTube, parents post videos of their kids playing Angry Birds in real life. Even talk show hosts like Conan O’Brien can’t resist cracking a joke about the game every night.

The game’s creator Rovio on Friday announced a new game, Angry Birds Rio, based on a movie made by Fox. (See teaser images below.)

Angry Birds Knocked Off Perch by Bubble Ball

The time may have come for those irate avians and thieving pigs to cease hostilities and join forces against a new and even less likely enemy.

Angry Birds, the time-wasting phenomenon that has ruled the smartphone roost for the last year, has finally been vanquished by a 14-year-old boy and the game he devised with the help of his mum and the local library.

On paper, Robert Nay’s Bubble Ball – described as a “fun, new physics puzzle game” – does not look quite as thrilling as Angry Birds, which ushers players into an inexplicable realm where they can catapult feathered missiles into a variety of structures that shelter the green pigs who have stolen their eggs.

But the Utah wonderboy’s brainchild has now been downloaded more than 2m times and last week knocked Angry Birds off its perch at the top of the free games in Apple’s iTunes store.

Skype Struggling To Recover From Outage

Skype struggled Thursday to restore service from a global outage that has left millions of users unable to place voice or video calls for almost 24 hours.

The Luxembourg-based voice over IP (VoIP) company estimated 10 million people were able to make calls, which is less than half of the more than 20 million calls regularly made during peak periods each day. Those that did log in found that some features were unreliable, such as people’s online status and instant messaging. Group video calling was not expected to return to normal until after person-to-person calling was restored.
