What makes Amazon’s cloud services so successful?

aws_success Amazon Web Services (AWS) have become #1 area of growth for the company, as their latest report states. AWS grow even faster, than Amazon’s consumer electronics, demontrating 87% year-over-year growth and reaching $1B revenues in 2011.

Randy Bias has analyzed this success in his recent post for CloudAve.com. He notes that AWS will be a $16B by 2016, thus becoming the biggest infrastructure and hosting business in the world. So what are the drivers that make Amazon more successful than the other technology giants? (more…)

WikiLeaks Website Pulled by Amazon after US Political Pressure

The United States struck its first blow against WikiLeaks after Amazon.com pulled the plug on hosting the whistleblowing website in an apparent reaction to heavy political pressure.

The main website and a sub-site devoted to the diplomatic documents were unavailable from the US and Europe on Wednesday, as Amazon servers refused to acknowledge requests for data.

The plug was pulled as the influential senator and chairman of the homeland security committee, Joe Lieberman, called for a boycott of the site by US companies.

“[Amazon's] decision to cut off WikiLeaks now is the right decision and should set the standard for other companies WikiLeaks is using to distribute its illegally seized material,” he said.

“I call on any other company or organisation that is hosting WikiLeaks to immediately terminate its relationship with them.”

The department of homeland security confirmed Amazon’s move, referring journalists to Lieberman’s statement.

Squidoo: Put a Lens on Your Idea

Internet offers more and more interesting tools for various users’ needs each day. One of such tools is Squidoo.

Squidoo is a unique publishing platform and community that makes it easy for you to create the so-called “lenses” online. The latter are pages, kind of like signposts or overview articles. You gather everything you know about your topic of interest in such lens and snap it all into focus by publishing it online. Like the lens of a camera, your page is your perspective on something important for you. It is a really great tool for sharing your knowledge, promoting your ideas, and bringing it all to the wide public. After all, Squidoo is totally SEO-friendly.
