Facebook And Skype Becoming Deeply Integrated

Facebook and Skype are preparing to announce an extensive partnership that involves SMS, voice calls, and Facebook Connect.

The upcoming Skype 5.0 beta version is rumored to carry the new functionality. While it looks a strategically sound step for both of the tools, the move will help enhance FaceBook’s chat application and will somewhat put it in competition with Google Talk communication software, while the more than 500 million subscribership of FaceBook , in turn looks very valuable for Skype so to say.

Anti-Facebook Diaspora Sets Launch for Sept. 15

An open alternative to Facebook will be launched on 15 September, the developers of the project have said.

Google vs Facebook

Facebook: it’s the world’s biggest website, by some calculations, and fast overtaking Google as the technology poster child of our time. But don’t underestimate Google, which is reportedly working on a new social networking project to try and rival Facebook’s domination in the space.

Social networking is one area where Google has failed to get traction, at least in the English-speaking world. It owns Orkut, which is big in Brazil and India - but where Facebook is starting to close in on their market share. Buzz, Wave, Friend Connect - none have quite made the impact Google would have liked, though worthwhile experiments.

Orkut: Google’s Social Networking Website

Heard of Orkut? Well for those who have already joined Google’s Orkut bandwagon and loving every moment of it, the question might seem utterly strange but Facebook enthusiasts and others might have some question marks on their faces. Named after its creator Orkut Büyükkökten (a Google employee), Orkut is Google’s very own social networking website on the Internet. In spite of its failure to match up to Facebook, which remains to be the numero uno in social networking and is extremely popular in America, Orkut has managed to create a strong base in countries like Brazil, India and many other non-US countries. With a recent interface make-over, Orkut seems to be doing quite well in the online social circuit however its comparison with Facebook remains to be a question that is bound to give way to a heated debate.
